Dickies® x Traeger: The collab you didn't know you needed

With the good weather comes the opportunity to get all your friends and family together for your first barbecue of the season. Fortunately for you, this is the year that Traeger have teamed up with Dickies® to bring you the best in BBQ gear that is stylish, comfortable and practical.

In this article we cover how you can make this year’s BBQ season one to remember, with the best BBQ equipment, the tastiest recipes, and the right gear to make sure you’re dressed to impress your guests with more than just your food.

What is BBQ tradition?

BBQ tradition is a big deal in America, especially in southern states where you’ll often find different states, regions, and even individual families, with their very own, closely guarded BBQ sauce recipes that they will always maintain are the best in the world.

There’s nothing better than soaking up some vitamin D in yours or a friend’s garden, or even on your nearest beach or at your local park, with the smell of sausages sizzling away on the barbecue nearby.

BBQs are a great way of getting different people together to enjoy good times and good food, and Dickies® x Traeger’s collab range reflects this, with high quality BBQ gear available for everyone of all genders.

What are Traeger’s best BBQ tips?

First of all, it’s important to start with a top of the range grill. Purchasing a good quality barbecue grill may seem extravagant to some, yet investing in a high quality product will ensure that your barbecue stands the test of time, and has less of an impact on the environment and saves you money in the long term as you won’t need to frequently replace your barbecue.

As well as a top quality grill, you could consider treating yourself to some Traeger wood pellets to help give your food an authentic wood-fired flavour that’s hard to attain when cooking on charcoal or even gas.

What are Traeger’s best BBQ recipes?

One of the one popular BBQ recipes is the mouth-watering Smoked Trager Pulled Pork. Yep, we know, it sounds delicious. So, how do you prepare this?

Smoked Trager Pulled Pork

  1. Preheat that BBQ to 250 ˚F. Close the lid and keep the heat in.
  2. Trim any excess fat off the pork.
  3. Generously season with Rub of your choice on all sides and let sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Place the pork butt fat side up directly on the grill grate and cook until the internal temperature reaches 160 ˚F, about 3 to 5 hours (it’s worth the wait, we promise).
  5. Remove the pork from the grill.
  6. On a large baking sheet, lay a few pieces of aluminum foil on top of each other, ensuring they are wide enough to wrap the pork butt entirely on all sides. Place the pork butt in the center on the foil, then bring up the sides of the foil a little bit before pouring apple cider on top of the pork butt. Wrap the foil tightly around the pork, ensuring the cider does not escape.
  7. Place the foil-wrapped pork butt back on the grill fat side up and cook until the internal temperature reaches 204 ˚F, in the thickest part of the meat, about 3 to 4 hours longer depending on the size of the pork.
  8. Remove from the grill again and let the meat rest for 45 minutes in the foil.
  9. Remove the pork from the foil and dispose of the excess liquid into a fat separator.
  10. Place the pork in a large dish and shred the meat with two forks, removing and discarding the bone and any excess fat. Add separated liquid back into pork and season to taste.
  11. Serve alone, in your favorite recipes, or on sandwiches. Refrigerate leftover pork in a covered container for up to 4 days.

And if you’re not a big meat eater, try this one:

Grilled Watermelon

  1. Lightly sprinkle eight slices of watermelon wedges on both sides with salt.
  2. Stand the watermelon wedges on their edges on a rack over a sink and let them drain for thirty minutes.
  3. When ready to cook, set the BBQ temperature to 450 ˚F and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.
  4. After the watermelon has drained, rinse each piece under cold running water. Place each piece between two folded paper towels and gently but firmly press to remove excess water.
  5. Brush the watermelon lightly on both sides with the honey.
  6. Place the watermelon slices on the grill grate and BBQ them until grill marks have formed and the melon is slightly softened, about 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from grill and sprinkle with sea salt and squeeze fresh lime juice over the top. Enjoy!

What to wear when you’re barbecuing

Whatever the weather, you’ll likely want clothes that will help you keep cool when facing the heat of the barbecue grill. Shorts are a good option in hot weather, especially with cooling temp IQ for particularly hot days. The Dickies® X Traeger ultimate grilling collection features shorts options for both men and women, in colours of brown duck and slate.

If you’re looking for a more formal style of shirt, perhaps for barbecuing for a relative’s birthday party or similar, you might wish to opt for a shirt with a collar, such as the Dickies X Traeger Shirt for women, or the Dickies X Traeger Shirt for men, available in both black and dark navy.

If a more casual style of shirt is what you’re looking for, particularly if you’re worried about spilling food when cooking, the Dickies X Traeger T-Shirt Dickies® printed tees could be a great option. Bearing the Dickies® x Traeger collab graphic on both front and back, you will certainly look like a BBQ pro, whilst the cooling temp IQ with flex technology will work to keep you cool in the heat.

The last ingredient to your perfect summer BBQ is to invite your friends and family over, and enjoy the sunshine (while it lasts).
