Wear the trend: Shackets

Wear the trend: Shackets

PRODUCTS| 02.09.2021

As the last of the summer burns bright, and we head into the cooler fall season, outerwear begins to creep back into our wardrobes.

Finding that on-trend, in-between seasons solution can prove tricky, that is, until you discover the shacket. What is a shacket, you might ask? A shirt-jacket hybrid, this lightweight, oversized overcoat is the answer to transitional dressing.

Why should you entertain a shacket? A shackets layering ability can take you through fall, winter, spring, summer and back again. Lightweight materials mean that you can wear them over a t-shirt or roll neck or under your favourite winter jacket when the season officially turns chilly. Buttoned up or unbuttoned, the shacket can smarten up or convey a casual, relaxed approach depending on your mood or the look you’re going for. What’s more? Shackets suit everyone. Thanks to the variety of fabrics, prints and colours on offer, you should consider the shacket as your new hero piece.

Not only defined as menswear or womenswear but a truly unisex piece, pair it with jeans or your favourite slip skirt. The shacket really had a moment in 2020, and it’s carried over into 2021 as we begin to venture out again and favour pieces that not only deliver on style but are undoubtedly comfortable too.

Over the next few minutes, we explore ways to wear our favourite pieces. Get ready to elevate your look this season and jump onboard the shacket trend.

Classic flannel

A classic flannel shirt is a must-have for any wardrobe. Versatile, comfortable and cool, this is an A-list essential, seen on everyone from grunge legend Kurt Cobain to the Hadid sisters, who are never not perfecting that off-duty model look. Honouring this timeless staple and building on one of our most recognisable work-inspired pieces, we introduce the Sherpa Lined Sacramento this season.

A long-sleeve button-down shirt made of our signature yarn-dyed cotton flannel now lined with a warm sherpa lining. The Sherpa Lined Sacramento is the ideal transitional layer, serving cosy sherpa to ward off the cooler evening air. It features snap closure buttons and easily popped open to reveal a more casual look. Available in three colourways including marron, black and brown duck, this shacket really can boost your look and bring cosy too.

Elevate your look

It’s as easy as throwing on a shacket to gain instant style kudos. Helping you to master off-duty style with ease, it really is an investment piece. And the investment doesn’t even have to break the bank. With so many options available to suit any budget, you can work a selection of styles into your wardrobe. Choose from an array of different textures, colourways and fabrications to achieve a unique look every time.

We’ve seen how flannel can look effortlessly cool and casual but have you considered our Duck Canvas Shacket? It’s the perfect fit overshirt. Made of our heritage 100% cotton duck canvas with warm sherpa lining. The material is a nod to our rich workwear history. A true core workwear essential, duck canvas was used in the construction of ship sails, tents and utility wear, lending our Duck Canvas shacket a super authentic work-inspired look. Available in brown duck and black, it can be layered over your favourite pair of carpenter pants or 874’s in matching colourways for a super slick and smart look.

How to wear a shacket

There really are a plethora of ways to style a shacket; it’s virtually impossible to get it wrong. Get ready to have the shacket on constant rotation in your wardrobe and follow our step-by-step guide to nailing the look:

  1. Layer up.

Worn over your favourite hoodie, this combination gives all the warmth of a winter jacket but without restricting movement. Why not keep it buttoned and tucked into your favourite pair of Ellisville’s for a sophisticated take on the shacket trend. Or, if you’re visiting sunnier climes, throw over your favourite camisole dress for an instant cool and grungy look.

  1. Accessorise

Play around with accessories to update more neutral shacket styles. Belted at the waist for a nipped-in silhouette or with a statement bag or jewellery. Pops of colour and small details will make this simple look work much harder for you.

  1. Be bold (if you want to)

Perhaps your wardrobe tends to lean on neutrals and comfy basics? Do bold statement styles, patterns and colourways scare you a little? A shacket is a great, accessible way to experiment with your look without maxing out the plastic. Try our Pedro Bay shacket in brushed flannel. Made of our iconic 100% cotton brushed flannel with warm quilted taffeta lining. A classic shirt cut with snap closure, it’s available in all-over check, air force blue and biking red—the perfect way to experiment with colour for the trepidatious.

So in reflection, The shacket really is a transitional hero that will see you through every season, making for outfits that go from cosy and comfy to smart and sophisticated. Never has the term Essential been so appropriate!
